Summons Information Is Not the Whole Account

Understand the difference between recorded summons information and an officer-reviewed account prepared for traffic court.

A summons records an enforcement matter. A testimony preparation draft helps an officer organize the account of that matter. The two are connected, but they are not interchangeable.

Start with the recorded identifiers

Check the summons number, date, time, location, vehicle and cited section. These details anchor the case. They do not, by themselves, describe every observation or establish the sequence of the encounter. A code printed on a form cannot supply the facts needed to explain what happened.

Build the account from your sources

Organize your personal observations and authorized contemporaneous records. Separate the initial observation, subsequent movement and contact. Include conditions or measurements only where supported. If a fact is missing, a drafting tool should not turn a common scenario into your asserted recollection.

Do not confuse completeness with certainty

A well-organized draft can identify unresolved questions. That is preferable to a confident account containing unsupported detail. Follow agency guidance for reconciling discrepancies and preparing records. Do not silently alter an official record through a separate preparation document.

Keep the draft beside the summons information

NinetySix saves extracted summons information with the related testimony draft so an officer can return, review, edit and export. It does not make the draft an official filing or keep a photo archive of the summons. Retain originals according to the required process.

Review both layers

First verify extracted fields against the original record. Then verify every sentence of the draft against what you know and may properly use. Check the jurisdiction and subsection through Violation Codes / Summonses. Finally, confirm that the exported version includes the corrections and belongs to the right case.

The saved testimony workflow is useful because preparation may happen long after the encounter. Organization helps you find and review your work; it does not replace personal responsibility for its accuracy.
